NEPA’s SCCA event at Pocono Raceway’s In-field was our third autocross event of the summer. It was the fastest, longest, and undoubtedly, most fun SOLO course I’ve had the privilege to drive on.
I was anxiously awaiting this event ever since we took some parade laps around Pocono’s in-field during our first event that summer. The day was finally upon us, and everything was business as usual. I was worried we were running late and wouldn’t have time to do everything; while Frankie took the laid back, optimistic route, assuring we would have plenty of time. In the end, we arrived right on time.
We had to check-in, get worker assignments, remove all of the tools and loose items from our vehicles, setup media/logging devices, check/adjust tire pressure, and walk the track. All of which we managed to finish with enough time to chat with some familiar faces and head over to the driver’s meeting.
We each got our first run in, and we were hype. The course was challenging, fast, and actually resembled a real road course (a refreshing sight from the typical “sea of cones” setup). It was the closest thing to actual racing either of us had experienced up to that point.
I adjusted to the course little-by-little, gaining some time with each pass, which led to my fastest time on my final run of the day.
My final run sealed my victory over Frankie yet again, but who’s counting, right? (3-0, Chris). We had a blast, so much so, we still talk about this event to this day. Needless to say, we were kicking ourselves for not signing up for the full weekend.
ATTENTION: Frankie is thinking about competing on this same course on September 15th, when NEPA SCCA will be hosting another event at Pocono In-Field. For more information and/or to register, click here.
