Last week we covered the drag racing that ensued after the NEPA SCCA season-closer autocross at Williamsport Airport. This week we focus on the event itself by providing a synopsis of the day, as well as sharing some well curated media, both on and off the course.
The Williamsport Airport SOLO event was hosted by Northeastern Pennsylvania’s regional SCCA group back on October 11th, 2015. We approached the day excited, since it had been almost a month since our last time on track at Pocono’s in-field autocross course, but also with a sense of dread, knowing it would be our last event until the 2016 season.
The morning was cold and gloomy. Racers were bundled up to fight the brisk morning air, while several cars were decked with thermal wraps and heaters to keep their slicks at the proper temperature. As the day progressed the temperatures got warmer, the pavement was up to temperature, and times were in-coincidentally getting faster with each heat.
Once again, D-class street prepared consisted solely of Saabros’ 2007 9-3 2.0T and 2008 9-3 2.8T Aero. At this point in the season, Chris already already won the majority, but could he seal the perfect season against the Frankie for 2015?
Chris started the day strong, posting a 4 second lead against Frankie, but peaked by his 4th run, running almost identical times the entirety of the afternoon.
Frankie, on the other hand, slowly improved his times throughout the day, posting a better number with every run.
This was by far the closest competition to date, but ultimately, Frankie’s final attempt fell just four-tenths of a second short to Chris’s fastest pass shown above. Unfortunately for Frankie the season was over, but that didn’t mean he still couldn’t get his revenge during the aforementioned, post-event 1/8th mile drag race.
Saabros would like to give a special shoutout to Frankie’s fiancé, Kayla, for supporting them at the event and providing us with some amazing media to share!
